Stirling Castle Drystone wall repair

The Back Walk, a zig-zagging, network of paths leading steeply up the cragg to Stirling Castle,  has been in existence since James the 2nd.  Records show that five hundred years ago, the paths and gardens were some of the most revered in the country.  It was with some trepidation that I first looked at the repair that was required.  Two or three metres had been mentioned, perhaps using mortar, but upon inspection it was clear that the job was much more than a couple of metres.  The previous repair had been thrown together and the path repairs above contributed to a large slip.  No stone was found behind the wall only soil and whin dust washed from the path above.  Ivy had crept around the stone and the only thing keeping some of the wall
The finished wall, good for another 500 years!
